Menstruation ( Caution Boys! )

I have been doing a lot of research on the raw food lifestyle and its affect on womens periods and have come to realize that once again our society has lied to us! Ugh. I hate it when they do that! Here is everything you need to know in the links below

Menstruation is it really necessary?

Blog: Raw Food & Your Period

I have always been plagued by painful periods it got a little bit better when I went raw but not by much. The only thing that did change is the number of days it lasted. Instead of 8 it went down to 3! While growing up I was always taught by my mother that the pain was just my bodies way of preparing me for pregnancy later in life and that I should appreciate it. Why did I have to "prepare" every single month, I would ask her. She would just give me a heating pad and tell me to rest. I thought there was nothing I could do about it so I'd just pop a Tylenol and cross my fingers and hope the pain would go away soon. It wasn't until a few months ago that I started reading about how some women didn't even get periods at all after only four months of being raw! My first thought was - thats unnatural, but then I started thinking -what am I defining as natural? A diet of cooked food is now considered a natural way of eating so that made think that maybe in this case what I thought to be unnatural was really in fact as natural as it gets. Our society has changed its opinion on periods, not even fifty years ago it was labeled as a condition/disease of the female species but now its embraced as a part of becoming a woman. So which is it!? A disease or a rite of passage? I wanted an answer to this question... so thats when the research began. In the above links you will find an extensive overview of this debate, and make the decision yourself. As it stands now I am convinced that periods are nothing but a hemorrhage inside the body stripping it of nutrients and inflaming the uterus. Our bodies attempts to remove toxins. Let me know what you think or if it changes any of your minds.

Very interesting post.

I haven't settled 100% on my opinion on this topic yet, but I know for sure that painful/uncomfortable menstruation should def not be the norm.

Isn't it cool to discover more and more what going back to nature can do for your body and health?! :)

it was once told to me by a homeopath that the painful part of many women's menstruation is due to their eating and living habits, and the amount of toxins in their body, and the body's ability to process these poisons out.
i agree- but with a twist... i think it also has to do with our toxic thinking and belief patterns. as a woman with painful periods, i get it, but i have to ask myself what am i not getting? what am i stifling within my thoughts and feelings that would cause my body to rage like this? i don't know if you drink caffeine, but that can make it hurt more too.

Thanks for bringing up this topic. At first, when I lost my period when going raw, I after some reserch was sure that menstruation is unnatural. Now I had a short brake a year ago, and still menstruates. but I eat different than what I did the first time. So I really want it to be unnatural, and prays that it'll stop, but I'm not 100% sure. Have you seen this: http://www.living-foods.com/articles/femalebalance.html
It's very vague/diplomatic, but I'm still unsure if the author thinks that it's ok not to menstruate at all.

violet, do you think alkohol has a bad influence on menstruation, since coffein is?

Enlightening for sure. I haven't read much about this, but it would be interesting to see if my periods cease. I'm nearing menapause age, and I could really do without it. But even if it doesn't kill it completley, it would be nice to be symptom free. Thanks for the links.

This might be very very late, but bible thumpers claim Eve did not have a period, that it was an unnatural curse because of sin. They used to eat from the GARDEN of eden. No meat. So?
I have no care or clue whether its natural, when I went vegetarian I stopped having horrifying painful dirretic periods, and now that Im raw I have missed a day that should have been a period. I was trying to find info on the raw diet and periods, because I already experienced PMS. If I skip it, Ill be happy, if I dont, Ill be happy. Either way at least it isnt like it was!

Painful periods have to do with our embracing or non-embracing ourselves and depend on karmic patterns and family influence as well (guilt, toxic bondings with family members or past life misuse of 2nd chakra).
Also, each time you change your nutrition or surroundings, the body thinks of it as stress and therefore changes the period (whether it is raw food, diet or simply being on a trip to another country or part of the world).

Of course it is healthier to eat raw and vegetarian but it is not the only thing that counts.
My mother never had painful periods, neither do I (thank god) and we both eat healthy, still when I go on a trip my period always goes few days early or late.

thank you for sharing your thoughts. I have been on raw diet for almost 6 months and did not have period for i think 2 or more than that months. I even bought a pregnancy test (obviously not positive) :) so then I've started to look or other posible causes and came across the fact that raw diet influence periods. so now that i know that women who eat raw food do not have periods made me feel better and more NORMAL :)
Thank you for bringing this topic.
